The Bruce C Project would boost Canada's energy independence and drive the economy
The proposed Bruce C Project, by Canadian electricity company Bruce Power, could become a foundation for Canada’s clean-energy future — fostering economic growth, generating thousands of high-quality jobs and reinforcing Canadian leadership in nuclear innovation and medical isotope production. As noted by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the project is a strategic investment in energy independence, sustainability and international influence.
With up to 4,800 megawatts of additional capacity proposed, the Bruce C Project (currently undergoing a federal Impact Assessment) would bring Bruce Power’s total generation capacity to around 12,000 MW — making it the largest nuclear generator in the world.
Interim findings of a report indicate that, during construction, the project could support approximately 20,000 jobs annually; over its lifetime, it is projected to maintain an average of 12,000 full-time equivalent jobs across Canada (around 10,000 of these in Ontario). It is estimated to contribute nearly CAD $200 billion to Canada’s GDP (about CAD $172 billion in Ontario) and tens of billions of tax revenue for all levels of government.

Bruce Power already stands out as Canada’s largest public-private partnership; its current Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement Project are the country’s largest privately financed electricity infrastructure endeavours. These existing operations support around 27,000 direct and indirect jobs each year. The Bruce C Project would build on that foundation, bringing new chances for skilled employment, regional economic development and durable prosperity in Ontario communities.
Currently, 95 % of Bruce Power’s spending is domestic, via an Ontario-based supply chain. The Bruce C Project would further that “Canadian at our Core” strategy — committing to safe and reliable power, global medical isotope production, economic growth and stronger Indigenous partnerships.

As stated by Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines: “Ontario’s nuclear advantage is powering our future and showcasing the best of Canadian technology, resources and workers… The Bruce C Project will support jobs, add CAD $200 billion to the Canadian economy, and expand Ontario’s leadership in life-saving medical isotope production…”
Together with the potential refurbishment of Bruce Power’s Units 1 and 2, the Bruce C Project would enhance the already significant economic contributions of the Bruce Power site (which currently delivers about CAD $4 billion annually to the province via ongoing operations and life-extension activities). This supports Ontario’s ambition to become an energy superpower.
