Uranium 2024: Resources, Production and Demand

Uranium Resources, Production and Demand, known as the Red Book, is a biennial publication jointly produced by the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the NEA/IAEA Uranium Group. First published in 1965, it has become the leading government-sponsored source of information on global uranium trends, with thirty editions released over its 60-year history. Uranium is the essential raw material for all nuclear fission reactors, making it crucial for producing low-carbon electricity, process heat, and hydrogen—key to reducing emissions and strengthening energy security. No form of nuclear fission power is possible without uranium.

This 30th edition includes contributions from 62 uranium-producing and consuming countries, some participating for the first time. It reviews global uranium market fundamentals and provides updated data on exploration, resources, production, and reactor-related requirements. The report also includes information on uranium production centres, new mine development plans, and projections for nuclear generating capacity and uranium demand through 2050.
