Once again, this year, here is a completely updated and revised edition of the statistical compendium ENERGÍA 2024. For almost four decades, Foro Nuclear has been presenting yearly updates of this publication, which has become a benchmark for the Spanish energy and environmental sectors.
To provide a broad perspective on energy and environmental information, ENERGÍA 2024 compiles current and historical data, statistics, and figures from the energy sector, both in Spain and worldwide, as well as forecasts, indicators and the evolution of greenhouse gas emissions.
Its ten chapters cover various aspects, including electricity, climate change and primary and final energy, All energy sources are also considered, including oil, gas, coal and renewables, as well as nuclear energy, a technology that Foro Nuclear considers essential because "it significantly contributes to security of supply and climate change mitigation." This statistical publication presents multiple data on nuclear power plants, both in Spain and other countries. The information available in chapter 3 includes, among may other aspects, operational figures, milestones and key dates, applications for license renewals, power and performance factors, uranium production and reserves, as well as the number of reactors in operation worldwide.
With half a century of operation in Spain, nuclear energy is the only technology that has consistently produced more than one-fifth of the electricity for the past twelve consecutive years. Its role in the fight against climate change is supported by data collected in this publication: in 2023, Spanish nuclear power plants generated 27.75% of emissions-free electricity and prevented the emission of approximately 20 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
