GENUSA to supply nuclear fuel to Sweden’s Forsmark plant
Global Nuclear Fuel and the Spanish company ENUSA have been awarded a new contract by Vattenfall to supply fuel reloads for the Forsmark nuclear power plant in Sweden. The agreement, granted to their joint venture GENUSA, will begin in 2028 and includes several reloads of the high-performance GNF2 fuel, designed to increase power output and reduce operating costs, says GE Vernova in a press release.
The contract builds on a long-standing partnership: since 1993, ENUSA has manufactured more than 3,500 GNF-designed fuel assemblies for Forsmark. The new GNF2 fuel will be produced at ENUSA’s nuclear fuel manufacturing facility in Juzbado (Spain) using components supplied by Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF, a GE Vernova-led alliance with Hitachi, Ltd. and affiliate of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy) .

The assemblies incorporate advanced features such as Defender™ PLUS debris filters, which help prevent feedwater debris from reaching the fuel and enhance operational reliability. According to the companies, the award reflects Vattenfall’s continued confidence in GENUSA’s engineering capabilities and supply performance, and further strengthens a collaboration spanning more than three decades.

GENUSA, based in Madrid and jointly owned by GNF and ENUSA, markets fuel and related services for European boiling water reactors. GNF, a GE Vernova-led alliance with Hitachi, is a global supplier of BWR fuel and associated engineering services. At the same time, ENUSA provides a full range of nuclear fuel cycle solutions, from enriched uranium management to fuel fabrication and services.
