An updated catalogue showcasing the potential of the Spanish nuclear society
Foro Nuclear has published a new edition of the Spanish Nuclear Industry Catalogue, produced in collaboration with ICEX Spain. This publication —available in both Spanish and English— provides updated information on the companies that make up the nuclear sector to highlight their competitiveness, technological level, and presence in steadily growing international markets.
Nuclear power continues to play a significant role in the global landscape. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), two new reactors became operational in 2024, bringing the total to 419 reactors across 35 countries. Additionally, the number of projects under construction increased from 57 to 63 in 16 countries. This global trend, marked by the construction of new reactors and the long-term operation of existing ones, positions the Spanish industry as a national and international benchmark, committed to participating in projects beyond its borders.
The Spanish nuclear sector, at the forefront of technology, drives international nuclear development and actively participates
Every year, the Spanish Nuclear Industry Catalogue makes it possible to identify the capacities, services, references, and business objectives of companies in the nuclear sector. It includes data from electric power utilities and equipment manufacturers to engineering firms and companies focused on waste management and decommissioning, with figures on turnover, number of employees, and areas of specialization.
A key player in the nuclear sector
The Spanish nuclear industry has established itself as a key player in the global nuclear sector, with presence in over 40 countries and a model that is based on innovation, adaptability, and the generation of technical knowledge.
Thanks to its export capacity and high technological level, it contributes to the supply of fuel as well as key components such as valves, cranes, pipes, and fuel storage systems —not just for national use but also for foreign reactors.
In an increasingly competitive and globalized international environment, Spanish companies show solid adaptability, generating skilled employment and added value.
In addition to its international presence, the Spanish nuclear sector plays a strategic role in the national energy system. The seven reactors currently in operation generate around 20% of the electricity consumed in Spain, and in 2024 they provided about 26% of the country’s CO₂-free electricity. This role as a stable and non-emitting source reinforces its contribution to energy supply security and energy independence.
The Spanish nuclear sector focuses on innovation, passion for improvement, and human capital
The sector boasts a high level of specialization in areas such as maintenance, technological modernization, and designing improvements for nuclear power plants. Its focus on innovation, skilled human capital, and strict compliance with international standards guarantees that Spanish nuclear facilities are up to date and prepared to operate safely over the long term.
In short, this catalogue outlines the services, capabilities, and key data of nuclear sector companies —from utilities and engineering firms to waste and decommissioning companies. It offers detailed, up-to-date information on the capabilities of a well-established industrial sector with strong international projection, which continues to position itself as a key player in the global market.
