Poland has selected the site of its first SMR reactor
Poland’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) is slated for construction in Włocławek, as announced by state-owned energy firm ORLEN. This decision coincides with ORLEN and Synthos Green Energy finalizing the operating framework for their joint venture, which is responsible for building and operating SMRs. The project will utilize the BWRX-300 design, developed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

Together, ORLEN and Synthos Green Energy will form Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE), a 50/50 joint venture overseeing implementation of the project. ORLEN’s leadership highlighted that this arrangement grants them direct access to U.S. SMR technology and positions Włocławek as the site for the first European BWRX-300 reactor.
