The nuclear supply chain is key to the European economy
Nucleareurope has launched an interactive tool highlighting the importance of the nuclear supply chain to Europe's economy and energy sovereignty. The tool shows that nuclear is one of the few strategic net-zero value chains that is almost entirely based in Europe, supporting industrial competitiveness, innovation and skilled employment across the continent.
The nuclear sector represents around 5,500 companies, encompassing activities ranging from uranium conversion and fuel fabrication to engineering, manufacturing, construction, operation and waste management.
According to Nucleareurope, maintaining and expanding Europe's nuclear supply chain is essential for ensuring security of supply, reducing dependence on imports, and meeting the EU's decarbonisation objectives. The association stresses that investments in both existing and new nuclear capacity will strengthen Europe's industrial base while supporting climate and energy goals.

“This interactive tool clearly demonstrates that the nuclear value chain is one of Europe’s most extensive and strategically important industrial ecosystems, spanning thousands of companies across the continent” states Emmanuel Brutin, nucleareurope Director General. “Not only is nuclear a cornerstone of Europe’s clean, reliable and sovereign energy system, its economic contribution is equally substantial. It supports over 900,000 jobs across Europe and generates billions in economic value each year. Our value chain stretches across the continent.”
The interactive tool, which has received collaboration from Foro Nuclear for its data on Spanish companies, illustrates the extensive network of companies involved in the nuclear value chain and their contribution to Europe's economy, technological leadership and energy resilience.

The tool includes an overview of the nuclear sector in Europe, the different areas in which the supply chain is active and a snapshot of the supply chain in each country.
