EDF launches global nuclear investment and a financing advisory board
The French electric utility company Électricité de France (EDF) has created a Global Nuclear Investment and Financing Advisory Board to help facilitate investment and financing for nuclear energy projects worldwide. The initiative, launched at the 2026 Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris, brings together major financial institutions and industry experts to address one of the main barriers to new nuclear deployment: access to capital.
The board includes representatives from leading banks and financial organizations, including ABN AMRO, BNP Paribas, Bpifrance Assurance Export, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, La Caisse (CDPQ), Royal Bank of Canada, and SFIL. Their role will be to provide strategic advice on financing structures, risk-sharing mechanisms, and investment frameworks to support nuclear projects globally.

EDF says the initiative aims to accelerate the deployment of new nuclear capacity by helping developers secure funding and by improving dialogue between the nuclear industry and financial institutions. By pooling expertise from both sectors, the board will identify solutions that make nuclear investments more attractive and scalable.

The move reflects growing recognition that large upfront capital costs remain a key challenge for nuclear projects, even as many countries look to expand nuclear power to meet energy security and climate goals. Through this advisory board, EDF hopes to support its customers and partners in structuring viable financing models and unlocking greater private and institutional investment in nuclear energy.
