Discover the Spanish nuclear industry through this updated catalogue

Foro Nuclear, in collaboration with ICEX Spain, just published the ‘Catalogue of the Spanish Nuclear Industry 2026’, a publication that has established itself as a benchmark resource for learning about the Spanish nuclear sector. Available in Spanish and English, the new edition showcases the technological and industrial capabilities and the objectives of an industry with projects carried out in more than 40 countries.

This catalogue covers the entire value chain of the sector and showcases the international presence of its companies

A sector with international reach

Nuclear energy is experiencing renewed international momentum, remaining an essential technology in the energy transition, in the words of the President of Foro Nuclear, Marta Ugalde, who welcomes readers in the opening pages of the catalogue. Due to its safety, reliability of supply and sustainability, at the end of 2025 there were 413 reactors in operation in 31 countries, while 70 reactors were under construction. Nuclear energy accounts for 9% of global electricity and almost one third of emission-free generation.

Support for nuclear energy in the face of energy and environmental challenges has led 38 countries to commit to tripling nuclear capacity by 2050. This scenario opens up new opportunities for the Spanish nuclear industry looking to the future.

The nuclear sector in Spain

After reviewing the status of the sector at global level, the new edition of the ‘Catalogue of the Spanish Nuclear Industry’ offers a snapshot of the Spanish nuclear sector. Spain's nuclear fleet consists of seven reactors in operation, which last year generated 51,846 GWh, 19,05% of national electricity production. Nuclear energy supplied one quarter of emission-free electricity in Spain.

The catalogue also highlights the international projection of the Spanish nuclear industry. More than 80% of the output of capital goods is destined for export, while in the case of engineering and services companies that percentage exceeds 60%.

A complete value chain

The catalogue's new edition covers the entire value chain of the Spanish nuclear sector that makes nuclear activity possible: electricity generation, systems supply, the fuel cycle, manufacturing of capital goods, waste management and decommissioning of facilities.

Companies and organisations are listed according to their activity. The catalogue includes electric utilities, systems suppliers and nuclear power plant operators, among many others.

The publication highlights the evolution and development of the Spanish industry which, over more than sixty years, has incorporated technological innovations and expanded its international presence and is now active in 40 countries across four continents.
