Poland presents its nuclear programme to the Spanish nuclear industry
Poland is moving forward with an ambitious nuclear programme, with plans to build six large-scale nuclear reactors and develop several Small Modular Reactor projects (SMR).
To gain first-hand insight into the progress of Poland’s nuclear programme and the industrial collaboration opportunities it offers, representatives from Spanish utilities and nuclear industry companies including Amphos 21, Aseguradora de Riesgos Nucleares, Empresarios Agrupados, Endesa, Ensa, Enusa, Enwesa, GDES, Iberdrola, Konecranes, Newtesol, Nfq and Samson Ringo took part in a meeting hosted by Foro Nuclear, with the support of ICEX.
The event featured presentations by Andrzej Sidlo, Nuclear Advisor to the Polish Ministry of Industry, and Monika Silva, Nuclear Director at IGEOS, the Polish Chamber of Power Industry and Environmental Protection, together with representatives of the Spanish nuclear sector, ICEX and Foro Nuclear President Marta Ugalde.
The discussions highlighted the capability of the Spanish nuclear industry to support new international nuclear programmes. Backed by decades of experience in design, engineering, component manufacturing, operation, maintenance, fuel management and specialised services, Spanish companies enjoy strong international recognition and are actively involved in landmark nuclear projects around the world.
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), the state-owned company responsible for delivering Poland’s nuclear programme, expects the country’s first nuclear unit to enter operation in 2036, followed by two additional units in 2037 and 2038. The three Generation III+ AP1000 reactors, supplied by Westinghouse, will be built at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in the Pomeranian region.
